One of my first posts on this blog featured a few of the wedding venues I researched while looking for a Hampton Roads venue for my very own wedding, and it’s still one of my most read posts! You can see it here. I remember how much work it was to find the right venue for us, so it’s no surprise that so many people are searching for venue information!
Now that I’ve had the opportunity to see so many weddings at so many different wedding venues across Virginia and Maryland, I’m excited to start sharing some information about each one that might help other couples make their big venue decision!
First up, The Mill at Fine Creek located in Powhatan County, VA—just 30 minutes outside of Richmond.
Venue Style: Rustic, Historic, Natural
Max Capacity: 180-225 Guests
Getting Ready Location: Yes, a gorgeous bridal suite, as well as the separate cottage for groomsmen.
Ceremony Location Option: Yes, 3 beautiful outdoor options (with gorgeous lighting!) and an indoor backup location.
Catering: In-house caterer required. (Food is made from scratch by the chef/owner and was seriously some of the most delicious wedding food I’ve seen!)
Portrait Options: 10-acres of so much gorgeousness! There’s a granite creek, beautiful gardens, the unique mill, and the perfect willow tree! It’s one of the most picturesque venues I’ve shot at!
What’s Available: White folding chairs (for ceremony), tables, chiavari chairs, votives, serving ware, and linens.
Pricing: Moderate ($$$)
Side note unrelated to this venue specifically: Pricing is obviously a huge factor, however, with so many factors affecting pricing, I’d recommend contacting the venue directly! You’ll want to get a detailed proposal from each wedding venue you’re considering to ensure you understand ALL of the related costs. Some venues include everything under one pricing structure, others will break it up and each feature is an additional cost that you don’t want to be surprised by once it’s too late!
These are just a few of the key things I looked for when seeking out a wedding venue! In addition to the details, this venue was just a dream to work at! The bridal suite, located in the main building, is set up perfectly for getting ready and decorated perfectly to fit the historic feel of this venue…
The guys had a separate cottage where they got ready, where you can see they’ve also retained many original features from the time period.
The Mill! If you’re looking for a unique ceremony location, this is it! It’s not suited for larger weddings, but if you’re having an intimate affair, this is the perfect ceremony site!
Everything flowed beautifully, the ceremony site on the lawn was located just as guests walked up from the parking lot, and just outside of the main building where the reception took place. Not too far to walk, but far enough to create some separation for the flow of your day!
This spot for portraits is like a hidden gem on the property! Most venues offer one or two ideal locations for portraits with similar backdrops. At this venue, it looks like we up and moved to a totally different location with each set of portraits. I love that!
The main building where the reception takes place is so charming. As soon as you walk in the entry way, it’s just so cozy and warm…makes you want to sit back, relax, and stay while.
The reception area opens up to a beautiful large space with vaulted ceilings and walls lined with windows, allowing so much beautiful light to pour in.
The Mill at Fine Creek was an absolute dream to photograph a wedding at! It was also the perfect venue for this couple’s laid, rustic-inspired wedding. If you’re looking for a venue in the Richmond area, add this one to your list!
