In 2013 I will…

1. Blog daily. This one has been my goal for quite some time. Β It’s a scary goal considering I work full time outside of photography and have a wedding to plan (that’s approaching WAY too quickly!) But. I made a list of all the sessions I have yet to share with you guys, and the list is LONG! It’s long overdue that I start sharing more of my photography! πŸ™‚

2. Specialize. I know without a doubt what genre of photography I LOVE…so in 2013, I’ll ONLY be doing that. I do better work when I’m doing what I love, so I’d like to focus on that and master it! In the long run, it will make me a better photographer and provide my clients with even better images! Β [I’ll officially be announcing this very soon, so stay tuned!]

3. Realize the value in what I do. In the past year I’ve grown more and more in love with photography, so I’m inclined to take photos for anyone and everyone, as long as I’m shooting every opportunity I have! But the truth is, I’ve invested a lot of time, energy, and finances into this; and that strategy is definitely not going to afford be the chance to continue for very long! I’m famous for taking on too much, but that’s going to result in one of two things….either I’m going to get worn out on photography or come June 1st, IF there’s a wedding, it’s clearly going to be completely unorganized. I say ‘IF’ because I need to make sure to make time for my personal life, and at this rate, taking on as many shoots as possible, I’m not making time for the person that’s helped me get to where I am…Calvin! I love photography, but I can’t lose my man over it, people! πŸ™‚ So. After a long winded answer, what I’m trying to say is, in 2013, I’m going to learn to say ‘No’ and start putting more value on what I do!

4. Finally, time management. This is basically going to help me achieve all the goals above as well as all the personal goals I have for myself! I have a huge list of tasks to complete for the wedding that have yet to be touched, plus a gym that’s calling my name, a website that’s yet to be completed, a house that needs cleaned, etc. I WILL start managing my time better to make all of these things happen. Maybe a pretty little Lily Pulitzer planner is calling my name!? πŸ™‚

So…goodbye 2012…you were awesome, but 2013 is going to be better! I’ve finally reached a place in my photography where I can say, I’m open for business! While I’m going to continue to grow and learn, I’m happy to say that I really feel like I’m out of the portfolio building phase and confident enough to take on clients! Β PLUS, this will be the year that I will become MRS. Piland! AND my initials will be SJP. Which, if you know me, you know why this is awesome! [Well…that’s if Calvin doesn’t cave and take my last name! πŸ˜‰ haha]

To finish this off, I think it’s appropriate to share a photo from one of the first sessions I ever took on! πŸ™‚
