Planning For Your Boudoir Session

Do you have a boudoir session coming up and need a little help preparing? Here are a few pieces of advice and tips I always give to my clients before their boudoir session:

Choose outfits that highlight your favorite features. Are your legs your favorite feature? Go with a baby doll lingerie set or lace-up corset with a garter belt, thigh high tights, and a great set of coordinating heels! These outfits will really highlight and lengthen those legs of yours! Plus, with the right tops, you can play up your cleavage! Tomorrow, I’ll be starting the first of a series of What To Wear posts focused specifically on boudoir outfits! Check back then!

Choose a variety of 3-4 outfits. Always bring a variety of outfits, you never know what you’ll end up liking the best in the photos! I would classify the types of outfits into 4 categories, soft and feminine, totally glam, comfy cozy, and all his. Soft and feminine is just like it sounds, soft colors and lacy outfits. Think sheer baby dolls and lacey lingerie sets. Totally glam would be the all-out boudoir look. Lace up corsets, garter belt, and sky high pumps. Comfy cozy is the kind of outfit you’d likely be seen in on a regular night at home…and oversized shirt and knee high socks. Finally, ‘all his’ would be if you’re doing your session for your significant other. It’s always fun to include items that are important to him. That could include his favorite sports jersey, one of his button ups, or maybe his dog tags.

Don’t use self-tanner before your session!  I totally understand wanting to have some color when baring it all for the camera…but trust me, the results with self-tanner would be far worse than going au naturel. If you must tan before your session, I would recommend visiting a reputable tanning salon and investing in a mystic tan or custom spray tan. Try it out a few weeks before your session to make sure you choose the right color and are able to achieve a flawless tan!

Relax! Don’t worry about practicing posing! As a boudoir photographer, I know how to work with all types of women…not just models…so don’t be fooled because my clients totally look like models in their photos!  It’s my goal to make your boudoir experience totally stress-free and fun, so leave the posing to me! All you have to do is show up and I’ll walk you through every bit of the day! For posing, I’ll tell you exactly what to do with your face, hands, legs, etc….literally everything, so you won’t be left guessing!
