The Wedding Registry

2013-03-01_0002.jpgSince I started this blog, it’s been my goal to blog consistently (if not every day)…I thought, oh this will be easy with all the wedding planning I’ll be doing! Obviously, the main goal was to share my photos…but I’m not quite lucky enough yet to be booking 5+ sessions per week (I think I’d go crazy!) So I wanted something to share in between that would be relevant to my readers. I thought I could share all of my experiences throughout wedding planning, but I’ve found that it’s actually harder than I thought it would be! I don’t want to share too much since the wedding hasn’t even happened yet…plus, who knows…the decisions I’m making may turn out to not be as great as I thought. 🙂

Instead, I’ve been writing some notes as I come along some important things (hopefully it’ll be super helpful to a friend of mine who mayyy be seeing a wedding in her near future! ;)) and plan to revisit them after the wedding. But since our Save The Dates have gone out and mostly everyone knows by now, I thought this would be a good one to talk about….the wedding registry!

In the past, most people always opted to do a traditional registry of home goods and small appliances to help settle into their home. But with so many couples living together before marriage, this tradition is slowly starting to change. Calvin and I have lived together for almost 2 years, so we’ve already bought all the little things for our home. I always joke that if I could register for a bedroom set, I would. Because really, it’s the big things like that, that we still “need”. And by need, I mean want. 🙂

So instead of the traditional registry, we opted for a honeymoon registry with Traveler’s Joy! The process to set it up was sooo easy, they already have pre-loaded activities and prices that you can choose from…so really there’s no research required on your part. However, since we have to plan our vacation anyway, Calvin and I research all of the activities and prices. That makes our registry more accurate, plus that part of our honeymoon planning is done! Another thing I really liked is that it let me attach links to each activity. The links aren’t visible to our visitors (I wish they were) but at least that allows me to go back and refer to the company that I researched for that particular activity.

I’ve read some really great reviews about this company, so I’m hoping that all goes well! When we can back from our honeymoon, I’ll be sure to make another post to review how everything went! But so far, so good!

We tossed around a few different alternatives to the traditional registry. But I’ll save that for a later post. There are actually quite a few alternatives that I think could be really appropriate for some couples! Have any of you had any experiences with a non-traditional registry?
