5 Steps To Slay Your Boudoir Session

“I’m going to slay in front of the camera—SO excited to pose for the camera!” -Said literally no client ever.

“I’ve been wanting to do one of these sessions for so long, but I’m THE most awkward person EVER in front of the camera!” – SOOO many of the exact women you now see on the blog and in my feed…SLAYING!

Almost all of the babes who walk into the studio talking about how nervous they are—it makes sense, being in front of a camera is weird and not something you do often! I even clam up when I get in front of a camera, and I know the deal. But below are the 5 best things you can do to make sure you slay your session!

  1. FIND A PHOTOGRAPHER WHOSE WORK YOU LOVE.
Look through their portfolio—would you love to be the woman in them? If the answer is an absolute yes, you’ve probably found your photographer! Boudoir sessions are so personal, the last thing you want are images that make you question your confidence. I’ve had so many clients come to me after a poor experience—this just isn’t something worth compromising on.
  2. NOW TRUST THAT PHOTOGRAPHER TO RECREATE THOSE IMAGES FOR YOU.
Ok, now that you know you love your photographer’s work—sit back and trust that they’ll recreate those images for you. Don’t worry about how you’ll pull it off, or if you look like those women in the photos…just trust that if you consistently love the work, you’ll likely receive similar images of yourself!
  3. COLLABORATE WITH YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER.
Once you’ve hired your photographer, the fun part begins! You can start planning your session to be exactly how you envision—do you like a flirty, playful vibe….or do you want to go totally dark and sexy? Maybe a little of both! We can talk about hair and makeup styling, outfits, etc. This all helps me know that I’m providing you with exactly what you’re looking for…and can help put your mind at ease, knowing that we have a plan to make this the experience you envisioned!
  4. FORGET THE COMPARISONS AND FOCUS ON GRATITUDE.
We’re all so uniquely beautiful and have our own stories. In the studio, we leave the judgements and comparisons at the door. This session is about loving YOU. It can’t undo years of self-hate, but it can be a start in finally celebrating you and seeing yourself in a new light. That starts with adjusting your mindset—trying focusing on the good as your session approaches. What are your favorite features about yourself…both physically and emotionally? What has your body done for you? What are some things you’d have the courage to do if you were more confident? What are some things you’ve already accomplished that you’re most proud of? Everyone around you sees it—it’s time for you to see it for yourself.
  5. SIT BACK AND RELAX!
You’ve picked your favorite photographer, you know you trust them, you’ve planned the session of your dreams, and you’re ready to embrace your unique beauty….now all you have to do is enjoy! Don’t worry about the posing (that’s what everyone’s most nervous about!)…I got you! I will coach you through every single pose and recreate some of your favorite images that you’ve seen before—but also create images unique to you and your personal style. If you’re in your head and worried about something…chances are, you’re going to see that when you look at your images. I have some tricks up my sleeve that always help—but being relaxed and enjoying the process is the best way to go!

That’s it! Follow this advice, and I promise, you’re going to SLAY your boudoir session! I know you were expecting advice on best poses for boudoir, what outfits to wear, or how to nail that sultry model face—but the truth is, that’s what you’re hiring me for! Chances are, it’s rare that you take a day off just for you to be pampered…so when you walk into our Hampton Roads boudoir studio, I want it to be just that…a completely luxury experience that you can enjoy.
